Vacation Bible School

Save the Date: Vacation Bible School, August 11-15, 2008, 9:30-noon, “Beach Party: Surfin’ Through the Scriptures” . Please save 2-liter pop bottles with tops for our VBS science lessons. They may be placed in a collection box in the narthex.

New Wesley Hall Fellowship Hub

Come and visit the revitalized Wesley Hall “fellowship hub.” The renovation has been a joint effort between the Worship Team, Member Growth and Care and Fellowship Teams, as well as all the committees who created new display areas, allowing more room to walk around, more seating, additional space for sign-up sheets and information, plus a new “Earl’s Corner” in the narthex. It’s a fabulous space – stop in!

Psalm Study

Dr. Bill Barnhart will offer a six-week study of the Book of Psalms beginning July 6, from 9:15-10:15 in the Aldersgate Room on Sunday mornings. The sessions will explore the background of the Psalms, their place in corporate and personal worship, and an in-depth examination of the 23rd Psalm. It is not necessary to attend every session to benefit from the study; participants are encouraged to attend when they are able. Class continues until August 10. P.S. The Aldersgate Room is air conditioned..

The Clothing Center is Moving

In order to recapture current Clothing Center space Asbury Hall with its kitchen and stage for church needs and outside groups, the Clothing Center will be moving across the hall to Room 105. Volunteers are needed to help with the move on Friday, July 11, beginning at 9:00 a.m. Big strong men, youth and children are all welcome! The Clothing Center will be closed during the month of July to allow for vacations, this move and give a breather to our hard-working volunteers. Thank you to all who contribute to this very special ministry.

Survey Says...

In the June Visitor newsletter and during June 1 worship, a survey from the Strategy Team was distributed seeking the congregation’s input as to programs and ministries here at First Church, one’s reasons for joining, etc. If you did not have the opportunity to complete a survey, please take one from the table in Wesley Hall. Please bring, mail or fax to the church office by Tuesday, July 1. Thanks from your Church Council Strategy Team.

Fabulous Bible Investigators

First Church Kids entering grades 4th, 5th, and 6th are invited to bring their Bibles and observation skills as they become “Fabulous Bible Investigators” in a special Sunday School program. F.B.I. participants will learn how to crack the code, identify the contents, and do reconnaissance of Bible lands. Theme crafts and games will also be a part of the morning’s activities, which will be held in Room 102 from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Sundays during the summer. Sessions will be led by Ruth Zervas and youth helpers from the Confirmation Class.

Praising God with Songs and Stories

First Church Kids aged preschool to entering third grade are invited to bring their musical enthusiasm to “Praising God with Songs and Stories” each Sunday throughout the summer. Each class will feature the singing of familiar and new Bible songs, crafts, games, and stories related to the songs. Participants will share their songs with the congregation.  The class will meet in Room 105 downstairs and be led by Pam Locke, Lisa Rogers, Beth Valdez and members of the Education Team.
