First Church believes that all children are a special blessing from God and that, as a church family, it is our responsibility to do all that we can to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and encourage them in love.
Our programs on Sunday mornings and mid-week events expose children to Biblical truths in order to help them become the people that God created them to be.
We strive to provide encouragement and support to our families with children from infancy through senior high school as we work together to help them seek opportunities to serve God and their neighbors in the world.
Sunday Mornings at First Church for Children
Nursery
Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers during both worship services and the Church School hour.
Church School
Sundays from 9:15-10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through 12th grade.
Rainbow Room
During the 10:30 worship service, we offer fun activities for children ages 3 through Kindergarten. Children join their family for worship until the Children's Word, at which time the children leave with the caregivers to enjoy the Rainbow Room for the remainder of the service.
Events for K-3rd children and 4th/5th graders during the year include:
- Friday Fun Nights
- PJ Movie Nights
- Food Pantry Shopping
- Week-long Vacation Bible School every August for children ages 4 through entering 6th grade. This year's VBS "Galactic Blast: A Cosmic Adventure Praising God" will be August 2-6, 2010
- Assisting with PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) weekend homeless shelter
- Seasonal Saturday program
- Acolyte program for 4th and 5th graders at 10:30 worship
- School-day off programs
- Ornament Workshop every November to make ornaments for the First Church tree in Wilder Park
- Baking cookies for mission fundraiser
- Laser tag, lunch out and other fun stuff
